The artist previously worked with PlayStation's Uncharted series which, for some reason, the fans to form a connection. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which was released in late 2015. When the game's debut was announced on the market, a lot of Zelda players slammed it as they were expecting something else. In a recent interview on an interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky disclosed the reasons for this rumor, which caused discontent for the development team.
"Sometimes it's frustrating because it creates [false expectations]. That's what I saw when we announced Tropical Freeze. People were thinking 'they're working on some kind of Zelda game and they're working on the next Zelda game', but like nope. We announced Tropical Freeze and it looks incredible and stunning and then people think "Oh, but it's a different Donkey Kong.'
And then you find out that there are people slamming the Neogaf show or something and you're like 'oh it's because everyone thought we were doing the Zelda game. And then you realize we don't do that. does our team.' This is a little both in that we sometimes laugh at it, but it can also be irritating when it gets a way too long," said Kozlowsky.
Kozlowsky's words are a fascinating insight into the way rumors are spread and can negative impact the reception of a game. While Tropical Freeze might not have been the game that fans were hoping to see revealed but it did receive a lot of critical review upon its debut.

It's impossible to anticipate how fans will react to a game's announcement however, hopefully this experience helped some fans understand the importance of making sure their expectations are in check!
