Andy Reid, once considered the coach who couldn't win the big games, is coaching in the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.Any chance to win a Lombardi Trophy is special, but there's added meaning to this one for Reid. He will be coaching against an Eagles franchise he led for 14 years as he tries to add to his remarkable legacy.Reid's connections to the Eagles run even deeper than just his time in Philadelphia. Doug Pederson who coached the franchise to its first Super Bowl win five years ago was a longtime Reid confidant.Winning a championship with both of the franchises Steve Largent Jersey he has coached on the same field would, it seem, be enormously meaningful to the future Pro Football Hall of Famer.MORE: The Sporting News takes a look at Reid's coaching career, including his 14-year stint with the Eagles. Reid started his coaching career as an offensive line coach in college, including Mi souri, before heading to the NFL.Offensive a sistant, Packers (1992-98)Reid was hired by former BYU colleague Mike Holmgren as the Packers' a sistant offensive line and tight ends coach in 1992. He spent five seasons in that role before moving to quarterbacks coach in 1997.Brett Favre was named NFL MVP in his first season with Reid as quarterbacks coach, and the Packers would reach the Super Bowl that season before falling to John Elway and the Broncos.Head coach, Eagles (1999-2012)It was Holmgren who recommended Reid to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie after the 1998 season. While Holmgren was making his own move to Seattle, he suggested Reid because Lurie made it clear he was looking for a detail-oriented coach. Despite being just 40 years old, Reid impre sed the Eagles and landed the job without any coordinator experience. After a 5-11 season in 1999, Reid molded the Eagles into one of the NFL's consistently great teams from 2000-04.With Donovan McNabb at quarterback, Philadelphia reached the divisional round in 2000 before earning four consecutive appearances in the NFC championship game. On the fourth trip to the title game, the Eagles finally advanced to the Super Bowl, Rashaad Penny Jersey where they would fall to the Patriots.MORE:Despite all of the succe s, Reid developed a reputation for coming up short in big games. The next few years were rockier. The Eagles sunk to 6-10 in 2005 as McNabb dealt with an injury and Terrell Owens caused drama, though they would return to the playoffs in 2006 and reach the NFC championship again in 2008 after a 9-6-1 season.Reid revived his own reputation when he got a miraculous year out of Michael Vick in 2010. Vick entered the season as a backup coming off of a two-year prison sentence, but he thrived in place of Kevin Kolb. The wheels fell off in 2011. Dubbed a "dream team," the Eagles added key pieces and hoped to compete for a championship but finished 8-8. There was no avenging that disappointment. Philadelphia went 4-12 in 2012 after a 3-1 start, finishing the season with a 42-7 lo s to the Giants. Reid was fired hours later. It was extremely difficult because I was personally extremely close with Andy, Lurie said in February 2023, . Obviously we were very, very succe sful together. He represented everything that I believe in. I just think the best thing for Andy at the time and I think his family probably thought the best thing for Andy at the time was to have a different environment for his family at that moment in time. I always thought hed be highly succe sful wherever he went. I credit the Chiefs for immediately realizing their opportunity. And they got a first-ballot Hall of Fame coach, in my opinion.MORE:During a panel discu sion Duane Brown Jersey in Philadelphia two years later, Reid said part of his downfall with the Eagles was he "drifted away from the thing I love doing most, and that was coaching."Reid said he entrusted his coordinators with too much and dealt with personnel rather than calling plays. "I thought I stepped out for the right reasons. It probably wasnt the right thing to do," he said.Fortunately for Reid, he got a chance to fix those mistakes with a new franchise. Head coach, Chiefs (2013-present)Succe s came instantly for Reid in Kansas City. Hired by the Chiefs le s than a week after he was fired by the Eagles, Reid was handed a new quarterback in Alex Smith and got off to a 9-0 start with a team that went 2-14 the previous season.A bad flameout in the wild-card round, where the Chiefs blew a 38-10 lead, would erase some of that goodwill and add to Reid's reputation as a coach who wasn't equipped for the playoffs. Neverthele s, it was clear Reid was making the right decision by calling his own plays. Smith turned in a Pro Bowl season in his first year with the Chiefs, setting career highs in pa sing yards and touchdowns. After finishing 9-7 but mi sing the playoffs in 2014, the Chiefs broke through and won a playoff game over the Texans in 2015. They improved to 12-4 in 2016 but stalled in the divisional round again.MORE:Reid and general manager John Dorsey made the right call on draft night in 2017, trading up 17 picks to find a quarterback who could succeed Smith David Moore Jersey and take the franchise deeper into the playoffs. Enter Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes sat behind Smith as a rookie, with the veteran turning in one of his best seasons but then sealing his fate with a wild-card round lo s to the Titans.Expectations were tempered when Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018, but Reid's scheme and Mahomes' talent proved to be a deadly combination. Mahomes earned an MVP award and took Kansas City to overtime in the AFC championship game. Suddenly, a franchise that couldn't get past the divisional round rattled off five consecutive trips to the conference title game. The Chiefs became comeback kings in 2019, overcoming a double-digit deficit in all three playoff games to win their first Super Bowl in 50 years. Reid finally got the championship that had evaded him for so long and cemented himself as a future Hall of Famer.MORE:Kansas City came up short in Super Bowl 55 the next year, but they may not have been there if not for Reid's gutsy play-calling.Facing a fourth-and-1 on his own side of the field while leading by five points against the Browns in the divisional round, Reid had backup quarterback Chad Henne pa s to Tyreek Hill for a first down. Reid could've tried to bury the Browns with a punt or just run for the first down, but he let the veteran backup make a play and was rewarded.Reid's offensive scheme has even more credibility after this past season as the Chiefs didn't mi s a beat without Hill. Mahomes is set to win another MVP after putting together a dominant year despite a receiving corps that lacked a true No. 1 option.Mahomes does Nate Orchard Jersey have Travis Kelce at tight end, but Aaron Rodgers' regre sion in Green Bay without No. 1 receiver Davante Adams while Mahomes has cruised along speaks to how foolproof Reid's scheme is.The Ch
