What is Prostatitis?
Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland, often resulting from bacterial infection. It can cause pain, urinary troubles, and sexual dysfunction. The condition varies from acute to chronic, requiring different management strategies.
Types of prostate
Prostatitis can be categorized into four main types, each with distinct characteristics and causes:
- Acute Bacterial Prostatitis: This is a sudden bacterial infection marked by severe symptoms such as fever, chills, and pelvic pain.
- Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: A recurrent bacterial infection that causes frequent urinary tract symptoms and pelvic pain.
- Chronic Prostate/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CP/CPPS): The most common but least understood type, characterized by chronic pelvic pain without evidence of bacterial infection.
- Asymptomatic Inflammatory prostate: This type is found incidentally during examinations for other conditions and is characterized by inflammation without symptoms.
